FlareSmith v0.13 has been released, and provides two important fixes for those upgrading. If you’ve got some old electronics gathering dust, you have a handful of options of what to do with them: Hack it up for some exciting new use, give it away, or sell it. When it comes to selling it, eBay and Craig’s list are probably your top two destinations. Both involve you crafting a catchy headline, describing your gadget and publishing a listing. Oh, and you have to actively field questions and generally work to get your item sold and shipped.

    You can use Gazelle.com (formerly SecondRotation) and tell your friends to use them too. If Gazelle buys your type of gizmo, you’re guaranteed to have it sold and have the money in your pocket in 2 weeks or so.

    They have a system for calculating the price of your gear (i.e. what the market will bear), and giving you a FAIR price. You fill out a form on the site, print up a postage paid packing slip for UPS, and ship it off to them. They inspect your item, and if its in the shape you said it was, they issue you a check or send you payment via PayPal. The newer the gear the higher the price… In other words, if you’re two models behind, don’t expect more than 30% of what you paid.

    I’ve personally used them, and got $14 for a Blackberry 8700 (put only paid $0.01 for it originally, because of a deal on Amazon) and $98 for my Blackberry Curve II (which is a $1 less than I paid for it) - so you will be taken care of.

    The best part is their customer service was excellent. They send frequent emails to let you know where at in the process you are, informing you of when your item was recieved, inspected, approved, and when they are going to mail your check. And when I accidently sent in my BlackBerry without wiping it first, they emailed me for the password… Then it dawned on me that I left a Mini-SD card in the device. I replied with the password, and asked if they could send me the memory card. Not only did I get a personal reply thanking me for the password, they had found the memory card and shipped it back - even before they were done inspecting the device. That’s what I call SERVICE.

    Try them, you won’t be dissapointed.
