The WordPress for iPhone application was recently released. It’s free and native, and so far the general consensus is that it’s nice but still has some kinks to work out. Indeed, I typo’d the password when setting this blog up in it and was presented with this broken screen:

And yes, I wrote this post with the iPhone App. I imagine an update will be right around the corner.
Oh, and it will create a blank post when you start to use it. I consider that a major bug, especially when twitter tools published it as a tweet.
Dang. Very nice. Does it handle images too? That would be killer – capture & describe images locally, then be able to transparently upload them to your blog and save to iPhoto for archiving.
That image was captured by the iPhone (home button + power takes a screenshot), and then attached and uploaded with the iPhone for WP app. Its supposed to make an automatic [gallery] if you put multiple images, but others have reported a bug with that feature.
I didn’t sync the screenshot back to iPhoto, but it would have, had I not deleted it from the library before syncing.
The only thing it doesn’t do with images is let you take a photo while in the App. Twitterific, FaceBook, and other apps have the camera feature integrated into the main application.
The other thing I realized after posting it was that the edit box is raw, and allows for XHTML. Which at this point seems to be the only way to control formatting (bold, italics, et al) or adding hyperlinks.
It’ll be another must-have app for iPhone, just not right now.
Thanks for the detail, Eric, definitely sounds like a killer blogging app, or at least it will be in a few months.
